Online Safety Policy

The internet has become an essential platform for children and teenagers to learn, connect, and engage with educational and entertaining content. However, ensuring their online safety is a growing concern for parents and the wider community, as it is crucial to protect young users from exposure to inappropriate or harmful content.

At Crown Mobile, we are committed to helping protect children and teenagers online by providing safeguards against harmful and inappropriate materials. Our comprehensive Online Safety Policy outlines clear guidelines, tools, and services designed to help keep your children and devices safe from the risks associated with the internet.

ENSURE ONLINE SAFETY FOR CHILDREN

As a parent, it’s essential to know how your children use the internet, whether for learning, entertainment, or socialising. Encourage them to use mobile phones or laptops in shared spaces, such as the living room, and monitor their activity in a supportive way. When signing up for gaming sites or social media platforms, remind them to be cautious and avoid sharing personal information.

Familiarise yourself with popular platforms and streaming services. Regularly check your child’s browsing history and search activity to stay informed about their online behaviour. Use parental controls, internet filters, and security tools to help block inappropriate content on websites, streaming services, video chats, or social media.

Most importantly, maintain open and regular conversations with your children about responsible internet use and encourage them to share their concerns. Reassure them that if they encounter anything uncomfortable or threatening, they should talk to you or another trusted adult. Staying engaged and informed is the best way to keep your children safe online.

INTERNET SAFETY MEASURES FOR TEENAGERS

As children grow into their teenage years, their internet usage typically becomes more independent. They may begin spending more time on social media, making online purchases, and streaming.

It’s crucial for teenagers to understand the importance of protecting their personal information online, especially when interacting with people they don’t know. Privacy settings on social media should be reviewed and adjusted to help prevent issues like cybercrime or inappropriate content.

Teenagers should also be encouraged to download apps, games, and software only from trusted sources, as doing otherwise can lead to malware infections, data breaches, or other security issues.

Just as important is encouraging honest and open communication between teenagers and their parents or other trusted adults. By sharing their online experiences, teens can stay informed, safe, and better equipped to navigate the digital world responsibly, while parents remain aware of their online activities and can offer support when needed.

INTERNET SAFETY MEASURES FOR ADULTS

Internet safety is essential for adults, as they are often targeted by cybercriminals for financial gain and identity theft. In today’s digital world, it’s important for adults to stay informed about online security tools and safe browsing practices to enjoy a secure and stress-free internet experience.

As an internet user, always keep your software, mobile apps, and devices up to date. Enable multi-factor authentication or two-step verification for added protection on your online accounts. Regularly back up important files and use strong, unique passwords, also try to keep biometric passwords. Avoid reusing the same password across multiple accounts, as this increases your vulnerability to breaches.

Remain vigilant against scams, phishing attempts, and spam. Always double- or triple-check links sent by unknown contacts before clicking and be cautious when responding to messages or calls from unfamiliar numbers.

INTERNET FILTERS FOR FAMILY USE

Internet filters allow users to control and restrict access to specific websites or types of online content, making them an essential tool for families who want to create a safer online environment.

The CommsAlliance Family Filter Program provides a tailored internet filtering service designed to meet the unique needs of families. To receive Family Friendly Filter status and official accreditation, providers must undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet strict criteria focused on protecting families online.

These filters are designed to block websites listed on the eSafety Commissioner’s Prohibited URL Filter (PUF) list and are also appropriate for users aged 18 and over.

The Office of the eSafety Commissioner uses a four-level classification system for certified filters:

  • Class 1: Recommended for children aged 15 and above
  • Class 2: Recommended for children aged 10 to 15
  • Class 3: Recommended for children under 10

For more information, including a list of accredited filter providers, visit the CommsAlliance Family Friendly Filter website.

If submitting a report online is not possible, Australian residents can email online@esafety.gov.au with the specific URL and a brief explanation of why the content should be prohibited.
